My Name Piece

My name is a fun splatter of fresh paints on a bright white canvas. Full of enthusiasm, ready to pop in a big bubble of laughter. Sounds sweet on your tongue, but when you say it, it comes out bold, like a blast of bright yellow rays coming out of your mouth.

            I have my great grandmother’s name, Eleanore, but I go by Nora. My great grandmother was not like me that much, but she was from Brooklyn. Her husband, Burton Rosenthal and she had twins. My grandmother and another baby that wasn’t alive when he came out. Burton died when my grandmother was three. Eleanore was a worker; she ran a real estate company. She lived a pretty long life for back then- 83- and my father said she laughed a lot. I’m not so sure I want to live the life she did, but she was strong, and that sounds good to me.

            The name Nora means “light” in many different languages. “Noor” in Arabic means “light”, or “sun”. In Hebrew, it also means “source of light”. I think “light” describes my energy, but I also feel like “source of light” kind of sounds like its describing a leader. But I wouldn’t really describe myself as a leader, but my zodiac sign is a Leo, which is a strong, courageous character. That makes the name Nora really fit in well with my personality and me.

            My parents call me “Chookie”, but that’s only because when I was a baby, The Rolling Stones had a song called “I’m So Hot For Her”, and my mom didn’t know the words so she just said “Chookie Bo Bo” and somehow that became my name.

I love my name a lot; I want to keep it forever.

My Favorite Summer Book

My favorite summer reading book this year was definitely Through The Looking-glass by Lewis Carroll. It's the sequel to Alice's Adventures In Wonderland and its about a young girl named Alice who dreams of jumping through a mirror into a house on the other side and all the adventures she has in there and the creatures

In the beginning of the book, Alice figures out that throughout the looking-glass world it is a big chess game. Alice finds out that if she gets to the eighth square, she can become a queen. Along the way, she meets hysterical characters, such as Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Mad Hatter, the unicorn and the lion, Humpty Dumpty, the old sheep, the White Queen and the Red Queen, the Jabberwocky, the White Knight, and many more.

My favorite part was when Alice first goes into the garden of the looking-glass house and she meets all the flowers and Alice asks them why they can talk and they say that all flowers can talk. The Tiger Lily explains "in most gardens, they make the beds too soft- so that the flowers are always asleep. Thats why they never talk." I love this because its such a smart funny way of saying that flowers are alive.

To conclude, Through The Looking-glass was my favorite book this summer because it was funny, creative, fantastical, and challenging. There was tons of vocabulary and old fashioned uses of English words such as 'tis' and 'thy' and were hard to understand. But overall, I had a lot of fun reading the book.
